Safety signs sought to slow traffic outside preschool

first_imgSafety signs and speed restrictions are being sought for outside a Glenswilly school due to concerns over traffic at key times in the day.The Glen Outdoor School is a popular preschool located along the road from Letterkenny to Glenties. However, the high volume of cars and buses collecting and dropping children off in the mornings and afternoons have led to safety fears on the road at Barrack.Cllr Adrian Glackin raised the issue at this month’s Letterkenny MD meeting, saying the problem arises three to four times per day. He said there was a possible blind spot for traffic travelling from the Glenties direction as they approach the school. “People are coming over the hump from Glenties and are inclined to swing over to the other lane to avoid traffic,” he said.Cllr Glackin said that the playschool is one of the best amenities in the townland and asked the council for signs to be erected to alert people to the potential road dangers.“The last thing we want to do is come back here and say we should have talked about this at the time,” Cllr Glackin said. The council roads department agreed to investigate possible hazards and parking practices in the area before exploring any signage installations.
