Taranis ready to deliver

first_img FIRST SUPER-6 FANCIES A notable upset by OFFICIAL REPORT at 13-1 in the eventful seventh race at Caymanas Park last Saturday ensured a Pick-9 carrryover to tomorrow’s meet. OFFICIAL REPORT actually passed the post second, but was awarded first place on the disqualification of 4-1 chance WOMAN IS BOSS with embattled jockey Aaron Chatrie aboard. Both Super-6s start anew with guaranteed minimums of $750,000. The Wayne DaCosta-trained FUTURE KING, who chased home stable companion DREAMLINER at a respectable distance on his August 1 debut over the round five course, should go one better in the opening maiden two-year-old race over 1100 metres. Highly fancied when apprentice-ridden on his debut, FUTURE KING proved no match for his more fancied stable-companion DREAMLINER, who won again over 1100 metres last Saturday. Having trained well and fully focused (figure eight on) for this race with stable jockey Robert Halledeen now slated, FUTURE KING should have the measure of the well-advanced first time runner SORRENTINO’S STAR (working fairly well) under Paul Francis and STUNNER (Wesley Henry up), who showed promise on her debut in June. TARANIS, who is proving somewhat expensive to follow, gets a glorious opportunity to deliver the goods in the second race for three-year-olds (non winners of two) over 1820 metres. Trained by Richard Azan, TARANIS was installed a 4-5 favourite to win over a mile on August 22, only to be beaten in a driving finish by the front running WAHEED NAJMAH in the fairly good time of 1:40.4. Working well and with leading jockey Shane Ellis retaining the ride in an eight-horse field, TARANIS is a firm fancy. FORCE DE JOUR, an American-bred 4-y-o colt who scored decisively over 1100 metres as the 1-5 favourite on a $450,000 claiming tag last Saturday, should bring fitness into play and repeat over the straight in the third race to be contested by seven high claiming horses. Claimed from trainer Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes by Winston Morris out of Saturday’s race, FORCE DE JOUR is on top of his game and despite the presence of proven campaigner SUNLIGHT EXPRESS (Halledeen up), who has good speed and enjoys the straight, FORCE DE JOUR ought to be followed with four-time champion Omar Walker taking over the reins from Shane Ellis. The sparingly raced 4-y-o colt STAN BOY, who returns from a lengthy layoff (18 months) with Shamaree Muir riding for trainer Spencer Chung, has kept better company in his short career and on the move at exercise in preparation for the fourth race over the straight, his class could make the difference. BATTLE SONG, MAGIC CITY and COURT CALL, all fit horses, should ensure that STAN BOY is extended in the last furlong. The last two races in the first Super-6 should be won by consistent ROYAL VIBES (Halledeen up), one of seven starters declared for the Kenneth Mattis O.D. Memorial Cup (overnight allowance) over 2000 metres, and down in class INFANTRY OFFICER in the sixth for $180,000 claimers over the straight. Their respective dangers are BOLD AVIATOR and WINESHA. Great opportunity ahead (1) FUTURE KING/SORRENTINO’S STAR (2) TARANIS (3) FORCE DE JOUR/SUNLIGHT EXPRESS (4) STAN BOY/BATTLE SONG (5) ROYAL VIBES/BOLD AVIATOR (6) INFANTRY OFFICER/ WINESHAlast_img read more
