Martin: Southampton are keen on signing Celtic pair this summer

first_imgtalkSPORT’s Scottish football correspondent Peter Martin believes Southampton will lift the gloom surrounding the club by signing Celtic pair Fraser Forster and Virgil van Dijk this summer. The Bhoys rejected an offer they deemed as ‘derisory’ for the England international on Tuesday and are expected to hold out for close to £9million for the 26-year-old.But Martin is convinced the Saints will land the former Newcastle goalkeeper as well as Dutch defender, Van Dijk, who impressed on his debut season in the Scottish Premiership.“I anticipate two players leaving Celtic and ironically I think the two of them will end up at Southampton,” Martin told Kick Off. “The first one is Fraser Forster and the second one is Virgil van Dijk. Fraser Forster has spent enough time in Scotland he wants to go back down south and play there or at a good European standard side.“Virgil van Dijk is very much in the Ronald Koeman [signing] mould. He’s comfortable with the ball coming out at the back and he’s been a class act in Scotland, albeit only for one season.”last_img
