Two more suspicious fires in Fort Nelson

first_imgFORT NELSON, B.C. – Crews in Fort Nelson are trying to figure out who or what caused two suspicious fires over the past couple of days.At around 8:00 p.m. on Friday night, a call was made to the Northern Rockies Fire Rescue reporting that there was a fire in a log pile by the Muskwa River near the highway 97 bridge crossing.Fire Chief Gord McCleary says the fire appears to be deliberately set. McCleary believes it was set using a petroleum product. He says crews could smell petroleum as they were suppressing the fire and stopping it from spreading. – Advertisement -At 6:00 on Monday, another fire was reported in a grassy area between 53rd Ave West and 52nd Ave East. The fire was around 200 meters in length and was behind the Springhill and Hillside apartments which are by the hospital.Both fires are under investigation. Police are asking anyone who may have information on these fires to call the at 774-2777. If you see any other fires or smoke, call Northern Rockies Fire Rescue at 774-2222.last_img
