Changes made to Documentary Stamp Tax return procedures Changes made to Documentary Stamp Tax return procedures The Florida Department of Revenue has redesigned the Documentary Stamp Tax Return For Nonregistered Taxpayers’ Unrecorded Documents (Form DR-228) to enable faster, more accurate processing of returns and payments.Florida law allows persons who average less than five taxable documentary stamp tax transactions per month to remit tax by the 20th of the month following the taxable transaction. Thus, taxpayers who qualify for this tax filing option are not required to register with DOR nor are they required to file a monthly return. Instead, taxpayers with few monthly tax filing obligations file a Form DR-228.The department has asked Florida business and professional associations for assistance in helping to inform nonregistered taxpayers about this improved form.DR-228 forms may be ordered online at www.myflorida.com/dor/forms/order. Taxpayers simply enter their name, address, and telephone number; then select form number DR-228 and choose the number of returns needed.Taxpayers are encouraged to use these original forms. Any DR-228 tax returns with a revision date prior to October 2002 should be discarded. Also available is a Florida’s documentary stamp tax brochure, which reflects law changes that were made during the 2002 legislative session. This information is posted on the department’s Internet site at www.myflorida.com/dor/taxes/doc_stamp.html. Multiple copies can be ordered online; request form number GT-800014.Taxpayers can also order forms and brochures by fax at (850) 922-2208, by phone at (850) 488-8422, or by mail at: DOR Distribution Center, 168A Blountstown Hwy, Tallahassee 32304. Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest With all the bending, lifting, and repetitive moves that farming demands, the career can exact a toll on a person’s body — young or old.Pain might seem unavoidable, the inevitable cost of cultivating the land. However, there are ways to prevent long- and short-term injuries, in part through exercises that can be done while sitting in a tractor or a combine.More exercise?“When you’ve already worked 14 hours a day, you don’t want to work out. But there is a way to fit some exercises and stretching into your routine without having to go to the gym,” said Laura Akgerman, disability services coordinator for Ohio AgrAbility. The program, which is offered by The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), offers free assessments for people with disabilities, to help determine which kinds of assistive technology they might need. When farmers sit idle in a tractor or other vehicle, they can use that time to stretch, just like people who work in offices can do from their desks, Akgerman said.Attendees to this year’s Farm Science Review, set for Sept. 17–19, can find out more about this at the annual farm trade show, sponsored by CFAES, near London, Ohio. At FSR, AgrAbility staff are offering 11 a.m. daily sessions featuring tips on exercising and preventing injury. An occupational therapist and an exercise coordinator will be leading the sessions and answering questions.“You don’t have to wear workout clothes. These exercises you can do in jeans and boots,” Akgerman said. The routine will include stretches to reduce the odds that peoples’ backs, necks, and knees will rebel at the end of a long day on the farm. Participants will discover what they can do to support their backs and necks, and they’ll learn effective ways to carry, push, or pull equipment so they don’t suffer pain later on.Not surprising to anyone who has worked on a farm, “a lot of farmers have back pain,” Akgerman said.“If you have limited range of motion or it really hurts to do something, we’re going to show you how to modify not only the exercise you do, but how you do the work as well, to show you how you can use your body differently,” she said.AgrAbility’s offerings at FSR will also include an exhibit of a garage/farm shop designed to accommodate a wheelchair. Visitors can also test out barn doors that open like automatic garage doors, and they can see an Action Trackchair, an all-terrain wheelchair, as well as an automated lift that allows someone in a wheelchair to get into a truck or other vehicle.“All of these are about increasing independence and easing the strenuous aspects of farming,” Akgerman said.
People resist sales. They resist the idea of selling. Many believe the old, well-deserved, negative connotation salespeople earned decades ago is still true today, even though nothing could be further than the truth. Bad salespeople still exist, but most of the bad behaviors are rarer now than ever. Prospects, with more power than ever, easily dismiss the self-oriented, pushy approach that was once commonplace.Let’s look at sales through a different lens, one that more accurately represents what it is salespeople do.The Development of RelationshipsWhere do clients come from? Who develops the relationships of trust while creating the kind of value that results in new opportunities? Who does the yeoman’s work of prospecting and building relationships where none previously existed? What could be more important that developing the commercial relationships that result in strangers becoming clients? What is more noble than developing and deepening relationships? What else might you do that allows you to be at the forefront of solving real business problems and creating value for people who need your help? The money you ask for is what clients exchange so that your company can dedicate and apply the resources necessary to solve their problems. Paying is noble, too.Responsibility for the Strategic Outcome of Client AcquisitionClient acquisition isn’t what you might believe it to be. It isn’t about quotas, even though that is one way we measure success. The bigger–and more important–outcome of client acquisition is strategic.Who are your dream clients? For whom do we create the most value, and which of these prospective clients would believe that value is strategic enough that they are willing to pay for it? Who have we chosen to ignore, knowing that no matter what we may do they will not perceive the value we create?Salespeople are the sharp end of the spear when it comes to executing the company’s strategy.Business Growth, Client Growth, and Customer RetentionCompanies grow larger when one or more of these three things are true: 1). They are acquiring new clients at a rate faster than they churn clients, 2). They are selling more to their existing clients, and 3). They are raising their prices enough to result in increasing revenue.Salespeople acquire those new clients. Much of the time, salespeople create the new opportunities that result in new opportunities within their existing clients. Almost invariably, the sales force is the one to communicate a price increase, and they are always responsible for creating and winning new opportunities after prices have been raised, no matter what.By helping their clients grow, salespeople help their company grow. They also retain those clients, ensuring they get first dibs on new opportunities, often opportunities the salesperson creates by showing up with a new, value-creating idea.Sales isn’t something you do to someone. It’s something you do for and with someone. It’s a noble profession.Maybe it’s time to look at sales through a different lens. Essential Reading!
